Paste Magazine recognizes the Triangle as music instigator →

Bet of The Bowerbirds shares an article and adds some thoughts about how excellent musical life is here in the Triangle.

    olivehearts:

So we already knew this: The Triangle, NC, where we live, is continuously pumping out great bands.  Beth grew up here, going to see local bands like Superchunk, Archers of Loaf, Polvo, Whiskeytown, etc. as a youngster, and ever since, the music just keeps coming.

Partly to blame for the Triangle’s musical outpourings are the handful of colleges and universities here, always bringing new people to the area, but the main thing, also mentioned in this Paste blog post, is the collaborative and community-oriented nature of the area.

People are always playing in each others’ bands, supporting one another, taking other local bands out on tour as they gain wider success (the Mountain Goats being the prime example of this), and just being nice.

Phil and I drove around the U.S. in 2006, just after starting our band, and while other areas of the country may have all sorts of wonderful things going for them, we felt like NC really has the best combination of Creative and Nice, in its population.  Oh, and Warm, in its weather.

I know I’m biased, (This is Beth writing) but that doesn’t make me wrong.

Phil’s previous band, Ticonderoga, moved here for the music scene, as did the Rosebuds, from Wilmington, NC, as did Deyarmond Edison, who became Bon Iver and Megafaun after hanging out here, as did a ton of other people who wanted to bring their creative little selves to this place.

We are proud someone noticed.  Although, honestly, I think they got the order wrong of the towns.

  4.   Oh my god. Big congratulations to the Bowerbirds! Look what they just announced!
olivehearts:

So we are kind of completely overjoyed to announce that we will be playing a show on Wednesday, July 8th, in Charlottesville, VA, with The Arcade Fire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion.
WHAAAAAAAAAAAT?!?!?!?
We are very honored to open for one of our very favorite bands, who also happen to be the Grammy winners for 2010’s Album of the Year award.  Pretty effing fancy.
It’s gonna be a good chance to try out some of our new songs we’ve been working hard on for the last several months.  Along with the Oldies but Goodies of course.
Anyway, to say we are excited would be a drastic understatement.  Come to the show!
Tix on sale now here:http://www.arcadefire.com/shows
If you want to go, you may want to buy tickets now, just because it will probably sell out, as Arcade Fire don’t have many U.S. shows coming up.
Kisses,
Beth, Phil, Yan, Mark ‘n Rachel
